Evey's Restaurant offters a 8.5% discount for seniors. After the discount, Edith and Edna's bill came to $21.92. What was the total of the ORIGINAL bill BEFORE the discount?
What we know: The original bill represents 100% because it is the whole amount. The discount was 8.5% Edith and Edna paid $21.92, which is 91.5% of the original bill (100% - 8.5%) Now we can use this information in our formula: 91.5% X whole bill = $21.92 You need to divide to find the whole, so $21.92 / 0.915 = 23.956284 In dollars and cents.... The original price of the bill was $23.96.
