Kaleidocycle due tomorrow
Report Cards went home today
We have been talking about stress and healthy ways to deal with it. Today we did a meditation exercise. Here is the video if you would like to try it at home!
Events this week:
Wednesday: Spring Concert last two periods and evening performance Thursday: District Track Competition Friday: Summer Social after school 5:00-7:00 Learning this Week: Today we wrapped up our Coraline study with "The Wolves in the Walls". We compared the two stories and considered Gaiman's writing style. We also started a conversation on mental illness which will be continued this week with a look at types of mental illness, as well as coping strategies. This Health topic will be integrated into our Language Block. In Math we learned how to calculate degrees in a circle graph as well as measures of central tendency. We also looked at how outliers might effect the mean, median and mode and which measure of central tendency should be used when outliers are a factor. This week we will continue with trends in graphs. There is a test planned for Wednesday. Our next topic in Math will be the Cartesean Coordinate Plane which we will start on Thursday. In Language, we will present our Coraline dinner party skits on Monday. We will wrap up our "Coraline" unit by reading another short story by Neil Gaiman and a creative writing point of view exercise. In Writing we will be starting a more open-ended writing assignment with a focus on creative writing. Meanwhile in Reading, we will be integrating some Health content with a look at mental health. The 5 paragraph persuasive essays will be due mid-week.
We will continue with our Data Management unit in Math. This week we continue to learn about different types of data. We investigate how to read and construct stem and leaf plots and use our "Census at School" results to construct graphs with a spreadsheet. Friday Mme Laurendeau was very kind to bring in "Montreal" style bagels and Montreal smoked meat for the students. They have been learning about Montreal in French class, so this treat was to support that learning. As you can tell, the food was a hit... In Math students designed, constructed and wrapped a T shaped box for a gift exchange. They calculated the surface area, volume and capacity of their box as a culminating activity for our 3D Measurement unit. |
